Death of King Louis I in 1724

A day like today, August 31, but in 1724 the Spanish King Luis I passed away, having just turned 17, leaving us collectors with the rarest series of the 18th century to collect in Mexico, Luis reigned just a few months and very powerful consequences left after his unexpected death from smallpox in Madrid.

Few know that his emptiness left the real possibility of a Civil War in Spain, since when Felipe V, his father, abdicated in January 1724 "to dedicate himself to the spiritual work that his soul required", he he did everything in the law, renouncing his immediate, mediate and future rights, not only in the civil world but also in the religious world in order to avoid being “dragged” to return. God had other purposes for Felipe V, at the time of the death of his son Luis, Felipe immediately did not want to attend to the claim to return to the government, after all, he would commit blasphemy to do so according to his beliefs; he had renounced even the divine right to govern and did so by oath.

A whole week lasting the arrangements of retracting that oath, the church and the judges moved at a rapid pace to put a king on the Spanish throne; it was imperative not to repeat another bloody War of Succession like the one that had arisen with the death of Carlos II between 1700 and 1711. Exactly one week the convictions and the paperwork took, Felipe V returned to the Spanish throne and there he would stay until his death the which would happen until 1746. The coins shown show the monogram of Luis I in Latin (Ludovico I) and they were minted in Mexico. Can you see the one dated 1724? It takes a lot of expertise in these pieces to find it.
